I sat down with Steve Morgan last week to talk about Babel. Ten days and three very long talks later, I am definitely closer to understanding how it works. Steve described Babel as an Octopus that had tentacles connecting everything, from trains to planes to hotels to theatres. That is by far the best analogy for what Babel does (and believe me, I tried to come up with alternatives).

I almost made two grown men cry the other day.  I told them I didn’t really ‘get’ SharePoint. Yes I use it every day but I had trouble seeing the big picture. Well, half an hour and a quick but longing gaze at some Ferrari’s later, I think I understand.  The overwhelming message my wiser friends imparted was simply, SharePoint is life. It is connected to almost everything that happens, it is where you find everything you did, are doing, and will do.  You are not the centre of the Universe, SharePoint is.

I sat down today with the Operations Manager and the Systems Manager to learn all about Customer Relationship Management or, because everything technology related that’s more than three letters simply must be shortened, CRM.

Web Applications UK prides itself on its bleeding edge technology and fast as lightning updates, which is why we wanted to be one of the first to adopt and completely switch over to Exchange Server 2010, and the Systems and Internal Support teams managed a migration that was smooth as butter.

The Web Applications UK systems team was kind enough today to give me an extended tutorial on their newest development, Tr@veller’s new reporting system.  This is less an update to the old Tr@veller reporting system as much as it’s a brand new product called Br-ease that integrates seamlessly into Tr@veller, built from the ground up, structurally unique and ready for action.  It is powerful, easy to use, enables client autonomy, and has been well received.

As the most recent addition to the Web Applications UK team I have the honour of introducing myself as the new PRA (Public Relations Assistant) and as such it is my role to let you know the company’s comings and goings and provide you with all the useful information and updates. I am delighted to be joining this community (I’m already excited about next year’s Webbie Awards) and look forward to being your personal News Anchor.
