Web Applications welcomes students to join us for internships, as a summer placement or as an industrial placement year, to serve for this time as a Software Engineer. We will provide students excellent working experience in a busy and dynamic workplace – students will also join our established training program, to ensure their skills match the high standards of our developers.
Our placements vary in length – a summer internship for example should be between 6 weeks and 3 months in length, while an industrial placement year for a university student will be for a period of 11 months. All of our internships are paid.
What does the role involve?
Interns and Industrial Placement students will act as Software Engineers for the duration of their experience with us. After necessary training, they will develop in a variety of different technologies and will be expected to develop according to the specifications provided and code according to the Company Coding Standards. Students, like Software Engineers, should always ensure that issues are monitored, that the time spent on the issue is efficiently logged and that the completed issue falls within the projected deadline. The student must be able to analyse their own work effectively and address bugs in their work that may need fixing.
Who will I be working with?
Students will be placed into one of our development teams, where they will be supervised by a Project Manager and a Senior Engineer, who will be available to offer them assistance and support when necessary.
What qualifications/experience will I need?
The student should have a passion for ICT and should be exploring the idea of a future career in Software Development. Industrial Placement students should be working towards obtaining a relevant IT-related degree, and knowledge/experience of any of the following will assist students in securing a placement with us:
What character attributes would best suit the role?
Software Engineers work on individual tasks within a team, so successful students must be equally able to work in a team as they are self-motivated. Excellent communication and a critical eye for detail will also serve the role well.
When is the start date of the job?
University students will tend to start their placement in August, while summer placements are slightly more flexible, as long as the agreed period of time can be worked in full.
